1. Oxidatively modified proteins acquire anti-radical capacity

This phenomenon - the anti-radical ability of proteins ARAP - is assessed as a Warning Signal of the organism, by detecting a possible under-supply with antioxidants through the determination of damage to blood plasma proteins. Thus it is possible to recognize the risk of diseases in the "pre-preclinical" stage, to control relevant therapies, to predict disease complications and hence to reduce healthcare costs and to maintain quality of life.

  "Norm" values say nothing...

A seemingly healthy lifestyle with maintainance of norm values of antioxidative components, like vitamins C and E, is no guarantee for appropriate supply, since blood levels represent averages and a raised consumption at critical sites, like the lungs of smokers or at inflammation spots, cannot be derived.

  ...unless the degree of oxidative damage is taken into account

2. A system for determination of anti-radical properties

To characterize both anti-radical properties of and oxidative damage to biological objects and industrial preparations ABCD has developed a complete system which includes a series of KITs and appropriate measuring devices.

Medical applications: characterization of antioxidative homeostasis in human organism with ARAP and ARAP-PLUS KITs according to the following components of the anti-radical capacity of blood plasma:

Parameters determined with the ARAP KIT:
ARAP the anti-radical ability of proteins (quantifies the degree of oxidative modification)

Parameters determined with the ARAP-PLUS KIT:
ACW the integral anti-radical capacity of blood plasma;
ACU its urate-independent component;
ASC the anti-radical capacity of ascorbic acid

Derived parameters:
UA UA = ACW - ACU; the anti-radical ability of uric acid
AO AO = ACU - ASC - ARAP; the anti-radical ability of unidentified substances (i.e. components of food, pharmaceuticals)

Industrial applications: measuring of antioxidants using ARAP and ARAP-PLUS KITs in pharmaceutics, cosmetics, food and chemical industry, ecology, agriculture, forestry etc. for:
• basic research on free radicals/antioxidants
• control of antioxidant parameters under different environmental conditions
• quality control of technological processes
• investigations on long-term stability of products
• screening for new antioxidative agents
